Cardiovascular Laboratory

The Cardiovascular Laboratory of Xuanwu Hospital, Capital Medical University is established in 1983. Under the leadership of Professor Wang Jiarui and Hua Qi, it undertakes the research on cardiovascular diseases, focusing on the pathogenesis, prevention and treatment of hypertension, metabolic syndrome and coronary heart disease in recent years.

The laboratory has presided over and undertaken more than 30 projects of the National Scientific and Technological Project, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Natural Science Foundation of Beijing and so on. As the sub-center of principal person, Professor Hua Qi has undertaken more than 10 projects of 973 Program, 863 Program, the Eleventh Five-year Plan and the Twelfth Five-year Plan. Up till now, she has won more than 10 provincial and ministerial level science and technology awards as the first performer , including 5 second prizes of Beijing Science and Technology Progress Award. Professor Hua Qi wrote more than ten monographs as the chief editor and wrote Internal Medicine for the five-year, seven-year and eight-year，and Geriatric Medicine as an associate editor. In the meantime，she has hosted the National continuing education program, named The Progress of Prevention and Management of Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Diseases in the Elderly，for many years.

Since 2002, the laboratory has collected more than 8000 cases of coronary heart disease, mainly acute coronary syndrome; and more than 500 families and more than 3000 cases of hypertension, each with complete clinical Information and corresponding blood specimens (including genetic, anticoagulant and non-anticoagulant specimens). So far it has published more than 500 papers, including more than 100 papers in SCI, and it also has trained more than 200 master students and more than 100 doctor students, among whom one student won the National Labor Day Medal, one grew up as a doctor tutor, more than 10 grew up as master tutors and more than twenty received fund from talents project of China and Beijing. In 2015, Professor Hua Qi was elected as the chairman of Hypertension Branch of Chinese Society of Geriatrics, and she has presided over the editing of Chines expert consensus on the management in the very elderly, Chines expert consensus on the diagnosis and treatment of abnormal blood pressure fluctuation in the elderly, Chinese guideline on managing hypertension in the elderly.

The laboratory persists in the tenet of “open, practice, communication, innovation” and has established long-term friendly cooperation with Mayo Medical Center and domestic and foreign medical institutions.
