The Department of Pharmacology
Department of Pharmacology was founded in 1994 and became an important part of Beijing Key Lab for Brain Aging in 1996. In 2003, it was approved as the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine Pharmacology (nerve) three laboratories. In 2005, Pharmacology department became the vital part of Key Lab for Neurodegenerative Diseases of Ministry of Education. In 2013, we established Beijing Engineering Research Center for CNS Drugs. Currently, there are eight staff in the department, including five researchers and three technician. Our department directed Beijing Pharmacological Society, the aging and Alzheimer's professional committee of Chinese Pharmacological Society and the cognitive disorder expert and gerontology Committee of China Gerontological Society.
Department of Pharmacology is characterized by neuropharmacology, elderly pharmacy, new drug research and development. We have undertook more than 100 research projects since the establishment of our department, including 25 national projects, 29 provincial and ministerial projects; we won many awards which contained eligible Jieping-wu Pharmaceutical Research Award in 2002; the first prize of Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Award in 2005 and the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress (project Name: applied research of epidemiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of dementia and mild cognitive impairment). We published more than 300 papers in statistical source journals and 60 SCI papers; we also published eight books acting as editor or deputy editor. We are authorized 15 Chinese invention patents, a US invention patent and an European patent; we developed two new drugs of Chinese traditional medicine for the treatment of dementia (Alzheimer's disease), which has obtained invention patents and received SFDA clinical research document of new drug. All of our dedication has contributed to the development of new drugs of nervous system in Beijing.
We have Doctor and Master Degree Education in Department of Pharmacology. So far 21 doctors, more than 30 masters and 14 post doctors have already graduated. And also we have more than 20 combined training of postgraduates. We are responsible for the clinical pharmacology course for under-graduated, and the neuropharmacology course for doctors and masters.
We developed the R&D platform for major disease drugs of the nervous system. It included more than 20 laboratory animal models, 18 cell models and more than 80 SOPs for experimental methods. It provides high quality technical support for many academic universities, scientific research institutions and Pharmaceutical companies in Beijing.
We have the good relationships with some famous international institutes such as University of Manitoba in Canada and Havard Medical School in USA. Especially, we signed a cooperation agreement for “Sino-Canada Joint Laboratory of Neuropharmacology”.
